Did You Know? Indianapolis Edition

Lots of cities all around the world have cool things people don’t know about them. Indianapolis has a few fun facts of its own that visitors and residents alike may not even know about. We went ahead and compiled a list of neat stuff you may not know about our community.

It’s the state capitol with the second-biggest population.
The most-populated state capitol in the nation is Phoenix, Arizona, but Indianapolis pulls up a close second, containing nearly 13-percent of Indiana’s total population with a population density of 2,270 people per square mile.

Indianapolis has a lot of claims to fame in the realm of sports.
Lucas Oil Stadium is the largest NFL stadium in the country. At 253 acres, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the largest sporting facility in the whole world. And, to top it all off, Indianapolis native Albert Von Tilzer wrote the famous tune “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

Sliced bread was invented right here in Indianapolis. That’s right — Wonder Bread’s Indianapolis branch was the first place to start selling pre-sliced loaves of bread.

It’s home to one of the oldest bars in Indiana.
If you head over to the Slippery Noodle Inn, you’ll find a historic bar that has been in Indianapolis for over a century and a half. It served as a stop on the Underground Railroad that is purportedly haunted.

City planners intended the White River to be a major hub for transportation.
